MIKE has had a distinguished career as an officer in the US Air Force, including as Deputy Commander of a satellite tracking station in the Indian Ocean in the lead up to the first Gulf War.

MIKE is a Gulf War Era Veteran receiving a commendation and award of the US National Defense Service Medal for Operations DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM (1991).

MIKE also received the Air Force Achievement Medal for saving the lives of two Soviet divers (1990), and the Air Force Commendation Medal for supporting launch and on-orbit satellite operations (1987).

MIKE vigorously opposes the Iraq War as an illegal and ill-considered tragedy. He believes that Bush/Howard's Iraq War has made the world a more dangerous place and increased the risk of terrorism.

MIKE is committed to the peaceful resolution of conflicts, and is a member of the UN Association of Australia ACT Executive. He is a regular participant and speaker at the ACT Network Opposing War's (ACTNOW) rallies.
